Midweek TV Preview: 6 - 9 September 2010

Or, more accurately, Midweek TV Preview: 7 September 2010, for 'tis lean pickings.

Tuesday 7 September

19.45 Switzerland v England, Euro 2012 Qualifier, Sky Sports 2/HD2/3D
England's fine start to Euro 2012 qualifying was capped by Jermain Defoe's third goal against Bulgaria, completing his Friday evening hat-trick and delivering three points in a 4-0 win over Bulgaria. England head to Basel without Michael Dawson, who picked up a nasty injury, but with Wayne Rooney who picked up something even nastier. Switzerland were the fifth wheel in the group on Friday and will want to start with a solid result at home.

19.45 Republic of Ireland v Andorra, Euro 2012 Qualifier, Sky Sports 4/HD4
Like England, Ireland kicked off their campaign with three points thanks to a 1-0 victory in a potentially sticky away tie against Armenia, Birmingham City's Keith Fahey notching the only goal. Andorra, somewhat more familiar to England these days, began at home with a 2-0 defeat against Russia. Giovanni Trapattoni will only be happy with six points from six after a good start.

19.45 Germany v Azerbaijan, Euro 2012 Qualifier, ESPN/ESPN HD
International goal machine Miroslav Klose grabbed the all-important goal as Germany settled for a 1-0 away win in Belgium on Friday, while Azerbaijan are yet to play. Jogi Löw's side should cruise through Group A - we know how good they're going to be, after all - but don't be surprised if Turkey throw a spanner or two into the works along the way.

20.00 Scotland v Liechtenstein, Euro 2012 Qualifier, Sky Sports 3/HD3
Another British Isles representative, but not another opening game victor. Scotland and Lithuania have endured a strangely intertwined football history over the last few years and encountered one another on Friday, playing out a goalless draw in Kaunas. Liechtenstein were on the wrong end of a 4-0 hammering by world champions Spain, and should be beaten again on Tuesday.

21.00 Argentina v Spain, Friendly, ITV4
Following their aforementioned winning start to Euro 2012 qualifying, Spain will let Scotland, Liechtenstein, Lithuania and the Czech Republic get on with business while they play a friendly against Argentina. This should be one worth tuning in for if you're a fan of sexy futbol.
